Quickly becoming a standard among broadcast professionals, RTMP (Real Time Messaging Protocol) streaming was designed to transmit high quality video, audio and data from a video encoder to a video server.
There are many advantages that come with the using the cloud for your encoding and decoding needs. Some benefits include:
- “Cutting the Cord” – Wireless transmission of video via a video server
- High Quality Video Transmission- Users can stream H.264 video in resolutions up to 4K Ultra HD
- Live Video – Ability to watch your video as it is being recorded and stream it quickly to an audience
- Pre-Recorded Video – ability to play from a storage device, such as SATA
- Dynamic Streaming Options- Video quality automatically adjusts to the users settings, reducing bandwidth
The figure below demonstrates using RTMP streaming via a web server to display video in real-time on multiple devices.
A video encoder, such as the DME-03, receives your video through HDMI. The encoder then transmits your video via RTMP across an Ethernet connection to a streaming server. The server then makes this content available across selected devices.
SELECTING AN ENCODER
In order to stream to the cloud your encoder will need to have:
- Ethernet Port
- Appropriate Input to Receive Content from Your Video Source, Such as HDMI
- RTMP Video Signal Output
- Video Server for Distribution (ex: Wowza®, UStream®)
- Support for Desired Resolution
The figure above illustrates Z³ Technology’s DME-03 encoder. This product supports resolutions up to 1080p60. View other ZEUS™ video encoders from Z³ Technology.
SELECTING A SERVER
There are many options available when deciding which server best meets your needs. If you are planning to use RTMP to stream your video, your service must support this format. Most servers allow you to configure security settings so you can choose where you want your content distributed. Z³ Technology encoders easily integrate with streaming services that support RTMP such as Wowza® or Ustream®.
Whether you are looking to stream a live event or host a video conference, RTMP is a reliable solution for a variety of industries and applications. Some examples include:
- Broadcasting: Remote locations, live broadcasts, emergency reporting
- Live Events: Sporting events, concerts, conferences and expos, press conferences
- Security and Surveillance: Remote monitoring of government, industrial, educational and other facilities
- Corporate: Meetings and Video Conferences
RTMP allows for streaming professional-quality video over the internet. Z³ Technology offers a variety of video encoders that allow encode via RTMP. Check out all of our ZEUS Video Encoders’ features at www.Z3technology.com.
